Instead of deporting illegal immigrants, why are we not pressing them into military service? They're motivated workers and the military pays far better than agricultural or service industry work does. And it gets our American-born troops out of harm's way.
Almost 30,000 foreign nationals are already serving in our military. Wouldn't this solve two problems at once?
Because ours is still an all volunteer military?
Because there is an educational standard for joining the military?
Because the military is still a good career for many Americans?
Maybe if you gave illegal immigrants a choice and they fulfilled all the requirements for military service, that might be an option. You still have to remember that many illegal immigrants are doing jobs Americans won't. What would happen if they all went away?
